Factory tourism can become Belarus' specialty, Irina Voronovich, Director of the Tourism Department at the Sport and Tourism Ministry, told a press conference in Minsk on 3 November, BelTA has learned.

"It can become our specialty. We already practice it to some extent. But there are technicalities that we still need to work on, and we will do it, of course, in the coming years," Irina Voronovich said.

According to her, companies would like to have these tours not only in Russian but also in English. Enterprises not only in Minsk but also in the regions are interest in this. Torus are already offered by Minsk Tractor plant (MTZ trademark), Kommunarka confectionery, ZORKA jewelery factory, BelAZ and other enterprises.

Now the Sport and Tourism Ministry is working out mechanisms to drum up the interest in increasing the flow of tourists.

Enterprises see factory tourism not so much as a source of additional profit but a promotion opportunity and a marketing tool, said Yelena Likhamovich, deputy director and head of marketing at the National Tourism Agency. "This is an excellent opportunity to promote our country and its brands," she added.
